You can help us to help the earth. Here are some suggestions.
Reduce energy by switching off lights and closing your windows if the heating is on. Set your bedroom thermostat to a comfortable level, recommended 18°C. The Energy Saving Trust provides information on what you can do at your own home.
Give the Car a Rest
Leave the car behind! Walk, cycle or use public transport when on the Island. We willhappily provide you with information and advice. OS maps are available to borrow from reception.
Use local products, they give you a flavour of the area and help support our local community. We are fortunate to have some fantastic producers of food, drink and arts & crafts. Ask about our local markets and local/regional produce.
Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle
Try to avoid overly packaged goods and say NO to that extra carrier bag! You can also support us in our efforts to recycle - please ask our staff for more details.
Be Water Wise
The UK has rising cost for water treatment and flood defence, so please use water wisely. Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth and adhere to the towel policies and other water saving initiatives. Bring a re-fillable water bottle - our tap water is filtered from a sustainable spring in the Shiskine Valley, so no need for botted water.
Help us to look after the landscape and wildlife. DO NOT litter, guard against fire and use the footpaths responsibly. Ensure you follow the Countryside Code. Have a look at our nature library in the card room or borrow an OS map to go and explore.
